Presidents Report 2019

 

Welcome all 2019 Levin Club AGM

 

First of all, I would like you all to spend a quiet moment to remember our mates and family who are no longer with us.

 

Our permanent staff, Tina and Dianne I would like to thank you both for the time and effort you have put into the Club this past year - quite trying at times, to our part time staff and all the volunteer helpers that put so much effort into doing the little things and sometimes the big things that have to be done to keep this great place operating - thank you. 

 

So where are we at, good question? They say time flies when you are having fun, with the amount of fun we have had in the last year I almost think someone stopped the clock. To be honest we have had a shocker, income has been down considerably this year, we have to do better and ‘we’ isn’t the committee making the decisions to help us into the future, it is important input from all of you - our members.

 

The positives going forward are the long term lease out the front with the Brown Butter Kitchen, the food is great the staff are friendly and they are bringing new faces into the Club during the day and at night. We now have a new gaming room by Pub Charity, the income to us is via a percentage of turnover, let’s hope it works. These two positives are only a start to a long grind ahead, we need bums on seats not just on draw nights, next time you are coming down ring your friends and see if they want to go out for a meal and a drink, bring your kids its great having them here, come and have some fun with the darts club on a Tuesday night or come and play on our snooker table.

 

Can we keep doing the same things the same way every year, personally I don’t believe we can but I also know change can be a difficult thing to deal with, so if you have any suggestions as to how you wish to see use leap into the future please see let us know, don’t sit on it and mumble in the background that no-one asked me what I thought.

 

Finally, I would like to thank the Committee for all their help, it has been great working with you all, I hope to get to continue doing so into the future. To you our members some I see regularly, some not so regular and some not at all. We need to band together and make The Levin Club the best club in town, a lot of us already believe that we are - let’s all believe it.

2. Obituaries

The meeting observed a period of silence in remembrance of all deceased members.

3. Minutes of the 2017 AGM

These minutes of 27^th September 2017 and printed in the Annual Report, were taken as read.

Matters arising

John Lyons queried whether the motion by N Lyons re draw at 7pm had been taken into account. Bruce said that when it is busy, no as it takes as long as it takes and when it is quiet we are doing it better.

4. Presidents Report

The President B Love read his report.

Moved that the Presidents Annual Report be received and adopted.

5. Financial Report

Ross Campbell presented the 2018 financial report to the meeting, Ross said most importantly we had made a profit. The bar is up and the gaming is down. The work that is put in by the staff & committee and the front being open and functions have all contributed

Moved that the Annual Financial Report be received and adopted (R Campbell/Y Smith carried)

6. Subscriptions and Membership

The current membership is set until 30^th September 2019.

The committee Moved that subscriptions for the year to 30 Sept 2019 be set at the same rate as applied for the Year 30 Sept 2017-2018.       

Moved that the Subs proposal be adopted. Moved by R Campbell/M Hill carried by acclamation

7. Election of Patron

Nominations -Lindsay MacKay, Michael Hill                                                                                   

As there was more than one nomination there was a vote and Michael Hill was voted in as Patron

 

Bruce acknowledged Lindsay and thanked him for his services to the club.

8. Election of Management Committee

Bruce thanked Ian Mackenzie & Jacob O’Brien for their work for the last year.

Nominations are: Kerry de Vries, Pauline Waite, Alan Jenson, Shaun Morath

Bruce asked Pauline to introduce herself to the meeting.  Pauline said she would like to see the Club progress and she is willing to do her bit.

The President proposed Fluker Denton as the Club Auditor

11. General Business

Bruce asked the meeting if there is someone who would be willing to take on the organising of the van drivers. Bruce said we can’t do without it. Elaine asked how well patronised is the van. Bruce said not to start with, but a lot later on. Bruce said he feels we have an obligation to keep supplying this service.

Max said Roy should be thanked for what he does; Bruce thanked Max & said he Max and Roy should not have to keep doing it all the time.

Bruce talked about the front of the club. He informed the meeting that we had signed a contract with Linda Purvis. Linda had pulled the plug on the agreement. Linda has decided she doesn’t want to do it. The committee has discussed taking over the front for us. We know this is potentially more staff & money. We will do it until we get someone else to do it.

 Linda is still cooking for us on Wednesday and Thursday nights until we get someone else to do it. We need a discussion on this and need to make a decision.

We have had a great donation from Plumbing World for gas. We had plumbers who volunteered to do it. Bruce asked for it to be done for love & no money as we don’t have the money to spend. We have the major equipment that we need, we have offers for stainless which we will take up.

Bruce asked for feedback & what we would like.

John Shearman asked if we had advertised for someone to do the catering & John asked what licencing we required.

Y Smith asked how much notice was given that Linda wouldn’t do as it as we had a signed contract. Bruce said it was about 2 weeks, we could have pushed the issue but we wouldn’t have had the meals in the club for the last 3 months

G Hill said Horowhenua Learning centre run a barista course, was there something that we could do with them. Jo Robinson said she would talk to us.

Bruce thanked all for coming to & we appreciate it. Bruce said that it’s the same people but you are here for us.

Bruce said the staff are doing a good job, once again thank you for coming, it’s appreciated.

Michael thanked Lindsay for always being supportive of the club.

Michael thanked Tina, Tina is working hard at night as most managers would be long gone but Tina is here making us money.

Patron would like to shout the bar and get this financial year underway.

Notes to the Financial Statements
LEVIN CLUB INC
For the year ended 30 June 2019
1. Basis of Preparation
The entity has elected to apply PBE SFR-A (NFP) Public Entity Simple Format Reporting - Accrual (Not for Profit) on the basis that is does not have public accountability and has total annual expenses of equal to or less than $2,000,000. All transactions in the Performance Report are reported using the accrual basis of accounting. The performance report is prepared under the assumption that the entity will continue to operate into the foreseeable future.
2. Statement of Accounting Policies
The following specific accounting policies which materially affect the measurement of financial performance and the financial position have been applied:
a) Measurement Base
These financial statements have been prepared on a historical cost basis. The financial statements are presented in New Zealand dollars (NZ$) and all values are rounded to the nearest NZ$, except when otherwise indicated.
b) Changes in Accounting Policies
There have been no changes to accounting policies.
c) Revenue Recognition
Revenue from club membership subscriptions are recognised on receipt. No Accrual is made for subscriptions in arrears as this income is not guaranteed. All other income is recognised on a normal accrual accounting basis.
d) Inventories
Inventories are stated at the lower of cost, determined on a first-in-first-out basis, and net realisable value.
e) Accounts Payable
Accounts payable are recorded at the amount of cash required to settle those liabilities.
f) Property, Plant and Equipment
Property, Plant and Equipment are incorporated in the Statement of Financial Position at cost, plus all additions since at cost less total depreciation charged to date. Land & Building have a current value from Quotable Value NZ Limited of $830,000.

g) Depreciation

Depreciation is provided on a straight line basis on all tangible fixed assets other than freehold land, at rates calculated to allocate the assets' cost over their estimated useful lives. h) Goods and Services Tax

All amounts are stated exclusive of goods and services tax (GST) except for accounts payable and accounts receivable which are stated inclusive of GST.

i) Taxation

The Club returns income that is derived from outside the circle of its membership and claims as deductions expenditure incurred in relation to the earning of that income.

3. Taxation

The tax expense against income for the year is the liability of the club as calculated in accordance with the income tax return to the Inland Revenue Department.

4. Term Liabilities

The building extension loan from the BNZ has a registered mortgage over the property at 262 Oxford Street, Levin. BNZ Business Loan (6.98%)        $109,938.00 Amount due for payment within one year $7,344.09 Amount due for payment after one year   $102,593.91

5. Contingent Liabilities & Commitments

There were no contingent liabilities or financial commitments including operating lease commitments at 30th June 2018 (2017: Nil).

6. Transactions with Related Parties

All Committee Members, Executive and Key Management are members of the Club. As members they enjoy the services and facilities of the club on the same terms and conditions as other members. During the 2016 year members of the club provided $31,660 in unsecured loans, with no interest, to the club to enable an upgrade of the gaming machines. After partial repayments the balance at 30th June 2019 was $20,920.

7. Bank Overdraft

The Club has an overdraft facility with the BNZ Bank for the 00 (Gaming) and 05 (Overdraft) Bank Accounts. The 00 account balance is offset against the 02 account balance and the 05 account has a limit of $15,000.
